Special Note: This is a description of the Advisors who participated at Voice LA on June 26 at USC's Zemeckis Center for the Digital Arts. (see original registration page). The next Voice LA Forum will be held at about the same time next year, but will be expanded in scope, with more advanced sessions on directing, acting, editing, producing and writing. We will also have an expanded greater collaborative effort.
We want to thank all of the Advisors for participating in Voice LA. They made this a memorable and worthwhile learning, sharing and collaborative event for all youth participants.
Background
The Voice LA Advisors act as leaders for each of the Forum Sessions. Advisors were chosen based on their experience at working with people, their knowledge and their genuine interest at working with youth. The advisors recognize that talented young filmmakers possess all the qualities necessary to express a true authentic voice, yet they may lack certain skills, knowledge and experience to fully develop their voice. The Voice Advisors ensure that young aspiring filmmakers are appropriately challenged and motivated on an individual basis.
Through these short sessions and VoiceLA, we hope, at the very least, to emphasize the value of learning, sharing and collaborating as the principle means of growing both individually and collectively through the process of making films.
Session Advisors
Session: Directing and producing
Background: Executive Director of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Film Program Culver City High. He has produced four films and ten theatrical plays. He has been instrumental in the formation of Voice Films.
Session: Directing and acting
Christopher Liebe has been teaching acting classes along side of Jeff Goldblum and Robert Carnegie at the “Playhouse West Acting School” for the past 5 years. He is also a founding member and acting coach for the production company “Elevation 9000 Films”.
Session: Pitching a story
Brian is rewriting the suspense thriller PRODIGAL, which is in pre-production, for Producers Paul Saentz and Brad King, of Epiphany Entertainment. He’s also developing the feature SINFUL ONES with Producer Derek Beumer, and writing the action/fantasy DEVIL DOLLS for Producer Robert Lawrence.
Session: Lunch speaker - "How to Grab Your Viewers' Attention"
Background: Associate Professor and Chair of Mass Communications at Biola University in La Mirada, California. He is also a screenwriter and the author of the book, A Matrix of Meanings. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Davidson College and earned an M.F.A. from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema/TV.
Session: Nuts and bolts of producing
Background: Under which Ephiphany Entertainment LLC he recently produced "Teknolust" starring Tilda Swinton and Jeremy Davies. The film, shot in the new high-definition digital format, was invited to Sundance, Berlin and Toronto film festivals and distributed by ThinkFilm. He is the co-founder of Voice Films Institute.
Session: Hands on directing, morning session
Jeff is a director, producer, writer of film and television entertainment. Most recently, he directed "Diva Detectives" for WE, "House of Clues for Court TV" and "The Man Show"
season five for Comedy Central. Jeff attended the American Film Institute as a directing fellow and made a film "Just For A Laugh" featuring Robin Williams.
Session: Nuts and bolts of producing; director and writer of "echostop" premiering at Voice LA
Background: He attends UCLA's Graduate Directing MFA program, and his first film there "Solo" has recently been selected into the 2004 Newport Beach Film Festival, the 2004 Desert Reel Film Festival, and the 2004 Valley Int'l Film Festival. It will compete in the "Best Short Drama" category. He is an advisor to Voice Films Create Program.
Session: Writing with Passion and an Original Voice
Dr. Thom Parham is an associate professor of Cinema & Broadcast Arts at Azusa Pacific University. He has written for CBS’ hit drama JAG and the Family Channel sitcom Big Brother Jake, and has also worked on Touched by an Angel. His specialties include Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Screenwriting, Broadcast Journalism, Television Production, and Media Studies. Dr. Parham is a known Trekker and wrote his doctoral thesis on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Session: Nuts and bolts of producing
Background: Studied film at the University of Virginia, and worked as an Assistant Editor on Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and as a Producer’s Assistant on Richard Cummings’ Thicker Than Water, before becoming a full-time independent Producer/Production Manager five years ago. Can also be heard as the voice of Donatello on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, every Saturday morning on Fox.

At sixteen years old Josh Rose and his partners launched what became one of the most innovative visual effects companies in our industry, VisionArt. Now with multiple Emmy nominations, an Emmy Award and Oscar recognition under his belt, Josh has successfully segued into becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest young up and coming directors.
Session: Directing and producing; director and writer of "Tuesdays After" premiering at Voice LA
Background: Her photographs of the attacks on the World Trade Center and aftermath appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world. This past year, she shifted her focus to filmmaking when she began the MFA program at UCLA’s famed School of Film & Television. She was one of only two people selected for both the Directing and Cinematography programs.
Session: Directing actors and acting for film
Background: author of two books. Her first book, "DIRECTING ACTORS," is required reading for directors, actors, writers and producers around the world, from film schools to Hollywood studios. Her second book, "THE FILM DIRECTOR'S INTUITION," breaks new ground in the relationships among directors, actors, and characters. She teaches workshops for directors and actors at her own studio in Los Angeles.
